Smoking
prevalence trend in Canada 1990-2004 and
graphic health warnings, December 2000
Single factor graphs like
this should not be used to say warnings have no effect. The worth of graphic
health warnings is not questioned here – it is backed up by
longitudinal Canadian research.
The speed of reduction of
smoking in Canada, if maintained means prevalence could be near zero in
another 15 years.
In 2004 daily smoking was
15% in Canada, in early 2005, 16%.
