Telephone poll on a tobacco products sales ban

Do you support a ban on the sale of all tobacco products in New Zealand?

Conducted by TNS, March 2006. Released by TV3, 2 April 2006, 1000 participants, age 18 and over. Nationally representative. No breakdown was available by smoking status.  The ratio of Yes to No votes is 1.24 to 1.

Ethnic breakdown of TNS-TV3 poll:

Conducted by TNS, March 2006. Released by TV3, 2 April 2006, 1000 participants. Nationally representative.

No breakdown was available by smoking status.

Comment: Of the 93 Maori responding, 60% support a sales ban, even though nearly half of Maori are known (from other surveys) to smoke. Asians also voted strongly for a sales ban (This would be consistent with few Asian women smoking according to other surveys). The Pacific result is not statistically significant as only 28 responded.
